I just got back into playing basketball after about ten years away and needed to replace my old Nikes (which I tried wearing a couple of times recently but they just weren't comfortable enough). I have had great experiences with NB running shoes, and ordered the 889s after talking to a representative at New Balance Charlotte. The size runs similarly to the 993 running shoes that I have already.
I have always had weak/stiff ankles, and the stability and cushioning I have experienced with this shoe has been great so far. This is the first pair of NB basketball shoes I have owned, and I would definitely recommend them to others that have tried and liked NB shoes for other sports.

The stability and cushioning of this shoe are great. The backside of the upper shoe is made of a strong and stiff material which ensures heel stability and makes sure your heel won\'t move when you wear this shoe on the court. The rest of the uppershoe is made from a durable material and it offers great ankle support. You will feel balanced if you where these shoes on the court!
The only downside of this shoe is the weight, it\'s a bit heavy for the faster players like guards. So I hope in the future newbalance will design a shoe that\'s a bit lighter and closer to the ground(thinner sole).
Personally I wear the 2E width version of this shoe and it is the only basketball shoe (besides the B906) that fits me.
