I like the features and the styling of this shoe. I hoped to use it for lightweight backpacking trips and general hiking. Unfortunately the sizing of the shoe is an issue. I typically wear 14-4E and most of my shoes are New Balance/Dunham since they cater to my obscure foot size. Unfortunately the 14 4E in this model proved to be too short and way too narrow for my foot. I also tried a 15-4E but it proved to be too long and still too narrow. I ended up returning the shoes.
If you are trying out this shoe, keep in mind that you may need to go up a 1/2 size in length and a size in width compared to what usually fits you. I liked the lacing system on the shoes and really appreciated how stiff the midsole of the shoe was. The vibram tread on this shoe was a very welcome addition.
Unfortunately for me, NB\'s current line of outdoor shoes (1520, 1320, 1500 1201) all \"feature\" a more aggressive fit. While they say this tighter/more form fitting shoe is necessary for hiking/backpacking, I would disagree. Feet swell quite a bit during a 15 mile hike with a full backpack. Beyond that, it is still common practice to wear thicker socks for backpacking.
Anyway, I would encourage New Balance to continue making their outdoor boots/shoes. But please in future renditions, make them fit true to size.

These ran one whole size smaller for me, but I love how they feel. My favorite light trail walking shoe yet. I actually like the lacing system, assuming it holds up.
