I'm very torn by these shoes. They are the most comfortable trail runners I have ever had. They protect my feet from uneven terrain, rocks, roots, etc. much better than any other New Balance product I've owned. However, the uppers wear out very quickly. The front corners where my toes are get torn very easily--something that seems to be a common thread when I see other reviews of this shoe on this website and others. As a result, they don't last very long. I want to keep buying them, but i'm very unhappy with the amount of time they last, so I'm not sure what I will do.

I've run in nothing but New Balance for years, and I've run in at least one pair of every 800 trail running model - from the 801 to the 813. The 813 is a very comfortable shoe and great for running. My only problem is the foxing on the outside of both shoes - both sides wore very quickly into holes. Probably because of the way the foxing ends in a forward point - and tho I do not really do that much trail running, the points would catch and now the tears/holes. I normally wear the soles out much faster than the upper part of the shoe, but not with the 813. I hope that the 814 corrects this.
