I have run in these shoes now for 4 weeks and they are broken in. With that said, The outside of the shoe looks great, the material around the heel is a definite upgrade from the 1064, nice and snug and soft. New Balance updated the mesh around the shoe which is okay, it looks to be a little lighter and maybe more breathable. Now to the draw backs that I am noticing in the shoe and this is very true, the insole is very cheap compared to the 1064. The insole in the 1080 is a plastic like foam and they replaced the antibacterial insole for a thin layer of the antibacterial material glue to the bottom of the shoe (cutting corners). Also, the shoe slaps the concrete more than the 1064 becasue they added more Ndurancerubber which doesn't allow as much flexibility and increases the impact between foot and ground. Take a look at the 1064, you'll see what I'm saying. Not sure why they did that? If your ordering this shoe you may want to order customer insoles so you don't hurt your feet.

I have run with these shoes for about 185 miles so far. I use them for training and racing. I bought the 4E (7.5) shoes after running in Asics Fortitudes for 3+ years. I think the Fortitude is meant for a heavier runner (I am about 125 lbs) and that was the appeal of a neutral performance shoe in a wide width - these are definitely lighter. I feel like these are narrower than the Fortitude 4E, but they are wide enough so that they don't feel uncomfortable or cause blistering. I think they are a bit pricey but there aren't many other options for my width.
