I am on my third pair of 1120 series shoes. I walk on a treadmill at the gym until the soles wear thin at the heel, then buy a new pair and use the old ones for everyday wear. I tend to wear them to the gym for about 18 months. It's about time for a new pair, but I don't want to buy them only to find out that a new version (number change) comes out a few months later. Can you tell me when this model is scheduled for an update? As others have noted, it's a fairly homely shoe--looks a bit too orthopedic (but the 1123 a bit better than the 1122 in this regard). Some skillful use of chiaroscuro on the sole edges and toe could make them look a bit less boxy. Also, would be nice to see them in black as an option. I really like how this shoe works for me. An attempt to make it look a little more cool would be welcome.

Overall, the shoes don't look like much, but they were very comfortable - all three pairs that I've worn through. The good performance of the shoe typically lasts between 6 and 8 weeks. After that, I've experienced significant heel wear right through the NDurance outsole layer and into the Absorb layer and a complete blow out and compression of the Absorb midsole/ball of foot area. There is no doubt in my mind that I am hard on shoes - previous running shoes were never this comfortable for this long. But unfortunately, the shoe needs a thicker NDurance outsole and longer lasting Absorb material. When running on gravel paths, you can feel the rocks poking through the sole of the shoe. I switched to the 956 trail shoe, but that model seems to run narrow and have a very different fit/feel. A size 11 4E in 1123 is nice, in the 956 it's pretty tight (past just a little snug) So I'm gonna try out the 1012 recommended by the folks at New Balance Customer Care. They originally recommended the 1123 after my former style was discontinued - and I hope that the 1012 is even better than the 1123. I'll have to give some feedback on the 1012s after I wear them for a month or so and see how they compare - otherwise, I'll be back for a forth pair fo 1123s.
